For many people, reading music is some unobtainable dream. Tortuous memories of having to take piano lessons where every, mistake was considered a personal disaster. Or maybe it has just been something that seems so hard to learn. Many people will resort to saying, "I don't need to read music". But that is like saying that you are happy to speak your language but have no interest in learning to spell! Reading music is in fact fun and for sure the best way to learn where all the notes are on your instrument. It all comes down to recognition. You see a letter and you know what it is because you have spent year being exposed to letters and words. It's the same with reading music. You would not expect someone who has just started to learn to read word, to read Shakespeare, and so it is with reading music. You must build your knowledge gradually and most of all, you must enjoy the process.
My books start at the very basic level and advance through to playing more complex pieces.
Get rid of this needless phobia and add reading music to your accomplishments!
